Annabel Armstrong - decorative painting
Annabel Armstrong founded her decorative painting studio, Surface, in 1997 after several years of training under respected artisans. Surface is a full-service studio that provides decorative painting for residential, commercial, and religious settings.

Decorative painting is a term which broadly refers to an artist's application of materials such as paint, plaster, or gold leaf to architecture. The work becomes an integral part of the architecture of a space; it is generally not a framed canvas that hangs on the wall. Decorative painting includes murals, ornamentation, plaster, gilding (including gilding on the reverse of glass, otherwise known as verre églomisé), as well as various paint effects such as woodgraining or simple washes of color on a wall.

Annabel and her team work on projects locally in Boise, Idaho, taking on both large and small projects. The studio's services are also available for projects worldwide. Some projects such as murals or verre églomisé can be painted in the studio and shipped, while other projects might require the studio team to travel in order to paint on-site.
